#Minimalism

What is Minimalism? At first I thought Minimalism meant throwing out everything I own - my clothes, electronics, slightly used boyfriend. But upon reading further, I've come up with my own interpretation that minimalism is about: Living More With Less

ဖ I've always been a cheap skate - one of my more attractive qualities, I know - so I figured that becoming a #minimalist would be easy, comprised of me dumping my shit off at the nearest Good Will and then slamming #minimalist into my Instagram bio. But over the course of the last few months, I've been finding out how deep minimalism reaches.

ဖ My personal journey into Minimalism started this past year as a result of the never-ending obstacles that were being hurled my way: unsteady jobs, rocky relationships, financial stress, the constant battle to eat a dozen Sugar Shack donuts or hit the gym. All these "problems" - this was before the planets were in retrograde - were hitting me one after the other.

ဖ Anyways, one day, while sitting at one of my unfortunate jobs, I stumbled across The Minimalists. Reading through their story and their 21 Day Journey was quite enthralling for the fact that these 2 men had "everything" they wanted yet still felt unfulfilled. One of their best and first articles I read was How to Make a Damn Decision and brought up the importance in the difference of Should vs Must.
"Intellectually, we knew we wanted a change in our lives. We knew we were unhappy, unsatisfied, and unfulfilled. We knew we didn’t have freedom—not real freedom. The problem was we knew these things intellectually, but not emotionally: We didn’t have the feeling in our guts that things must change. We knew they should change, but that change wasn’t a must."
ဖ Silly to think that by typing/writing/scratching "must" into my list, my outlook would change yet 3 months down the road after writing my own "Must List", I am SOO much happier and more confident in my choices, my sexuality, my health, and my life. The most important realization I had come to throughout this period was that choosing minimalism doesn't mean you need to make a 180°; it can be as simple as cutting back on clothes or spending more time family & less on other shit. Whatever the case, Minimalism holds a different meaning to each person that practices it and for me, I had found how to live more with less.
